Iain started his property journey in South Africa after graduating with a Masters degree in business administration.

Starting in 1997, he leveraged his income from corporate roles to build a portfolio of 12 single lets. With passive income from his single lets in place, he resigned from his corporate job at General Electric in Australia in 2009, to take 6 months off traveling around Australia with his wife Janice and baby daughter Amy. Rather than return to corporate, afterwards, Iain focused on building a portfolio of 100 commercial units (including one HMO) let to businesses and trading as Cape Business Parks. He manages a team of 15 construction, maintenance, letting and administrative staff. Iain now devotes much of his time to pre-pay metering business Metro Prepaid Limited, which was incorporated in the UK in 2017. Metro Prepaid serves both residential and commercial landlords across the property spectrum. Iain thinks that landlords spend too much time on admin and too little time sourcing new deals and letting their properties. “I like creating products that simplify the administrative burden that Landlords face” – says Iain. Metro Prepaid measures usage and helps landlords collect electric and other utility payments from tenants. Iain writes for HMO Magazine and speaks at property events.
